ummm.. im so knew to this site and i had the same type of question just pop up again from earlier.. it says "find the horizontal asymptote, if any, of the graph the rational function. h(x)= 12x^3/3x^2 + 8... the denominator is - 3/8 right?

I assume that you mean \[h(x) = \frac{12x^3}{3x^2+8}\]

Because the way you typed it is actually \[ \frac{12x^3}{3x^2}+8\]

If you want it to mean the same thing as the first one you need to put some parentheses in there...h(x) = 12x^3/(3x^2+8)

Well I am not sure what you mean solve this to solve it? To solve it you need the function to equal something and then you would find the x value. Is that what you want?

t just says to find the horizontal asymptote, if any, of the graph of the rational funtion. so i just need the horizontal asymptote or if there isnt 1

the last ? i had for this the guy said you have to set it to zero.. but he only used the denominotor or something. this is calculus.

Well you have a horizontal asymptote whenever the degree of the numerator's polynomial is less then or equal to the degree of thedenominator's polynomial.

Ok the to figure out the degree of a polynomial...go to the term with the highest power and whatever its power is, is the degree of the polynomial. So now what is the degree of the polynomial in the numerator?

yep now it only has a horizontal asymptote if the degree of the denominator is greater than or equal to the degree of the numerator... Does it?
