Topic: Preparation of the soluble salt : ZnSO4 Question 1) Why was HCl and BaCl2 solution added to the solution containing the salt ZnSO4 and distilled water? 2) At the end of the reaction in 1) a milky substance was formed. What did this substance indicated? Thanks! any help is appreciated because at this point, i'm so confused!

OpenStudy (ookawaiioo):

1) a double displacement reaction will occur. 2) The milky substance is the ZnCl2(s) precipitate. Any +2 cations I know are typically insoluble in water. I hope this helped!

Thanks! one more thing...what exactly is a double displacement reaction?

OpenStudy (ookawaiioo):

AX + BY --> AY + BX A and B are the cations X and Y are the anions

OpenStudy (ookawaiioo):

The cations trade their anions
