use the property log(a) + log(b)= log(a*b) (if the logs have the same base)

once you combine the two logs into one log, you have the same problem as some of the others. solve by making each side the exponent of the base 3

we could solve this one a different way, because we know log_3 (3) = 1 (normally we cannot do the log in our head) so the problem is 1+log_3(x) =5 add -1 to both sides log_3(x)= 4 make each side the exponent of 3 (this gets rid of the log) x = 3^4 = 81
