3m^2 + 11x – 4 Help please
3(m )(m )
Are we factoring?
yeah
I can't find the 2 numbers):
Can someone please help me?
Well break up into two equations, but keep the 3 with the x
so like I did a bit ago? 3(m )(m ) ?
):
I can help :)
Thank you!
Btw you can always use the quadratic formula
It just doesn't make much sense to me):
Alright- First step is quadratic formula. Have you heard of this?
yup!
We want to make a box that looks like the following:
You can factor without it though @Lagoonabarbie
I just don't get how I can find the two numbers using the quadratic formula... not the best at math, sorry
Okay. Since quadratic formula is very important to know, I will show you it that way. Just stay on this chat it might take a few minutes to show you the steps for this problem.
ok...
First, you need to use the two numbers- They are 3, (Which I get from 3m^2), and -4, which I get from the last part of the equation. We are going to be using -12, (The product of -4 and 3)
use those numbers for what?
I'm sorry. We want to use 11. Not 4.
I'm drawing it. One minute! :)
So- How can we get two of the same numbers that multiply to 33, and add to 11?
|dw:1377733470820:dw|
The 33 comes from the 3 (in the 3m^2), and the 11 comes from the (11x)
I tried to solve it and I just couldn't do the formula, my calculator said error...
oh ok, i see what youre doing
