If a liter of water is heated from 20ºC to 50ºC, what happens to its volume? The volume decreases. The volume increases. The volume first increases, then decreases. The volume first decreases, then increases.
decrease if it is not enclosed in a container. The molecules change from liquid \(\rightarrow\) gas.
therefore, the molecules become more dispersed and essentially are able to spread out all over.
does heated water expands the volume?
because i believe that water depends on the exact temperature.
Yes, but if it is not in a closed system, then the molecules are just assumed to disperse into the air, yes? If you have ever boiled water in a boiling pot, you will see that it starts whisling, that gas is the water leaving.
Even raising the temperature by just 30º, you will notice a slight decrease in over all volume amount of water inside a container. It's also the same with a water bottle left in the sun.
it makes sense, but the question doesn't mention that the container is in closed system.
I just assume this is HS chemistry, so i am going to assume non-closed. And either way, gases always somehow escape.
