Consider the structures of HME and histidine, then predict what the relative pKas of the -amino groups are in these two compounds and briefly explain your comparison

OpenStudy (abb0t):

histidine is basic, polar.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whats the pka of their alpha amino groups?, i thought they were both polar

OpenStudy (abb0t):

What do you mean by HME?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

histidine methyl ester

OpenStudy (abb0t):

i don't know the pKa, i am sure you can find their properties online. On wikipedia, the pKa of histidine says 6.0, by adding a methyl group, you make it more basic.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its only asking the pka of their amine groups and if they are the same

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and why

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Different structures, different values.
