What is the mole fraction of solute and the molal concentration for an aqueous solution that is 19.0% NaOH by mass?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

19.0% NaOH by mass means that there is 19 g of NaOH in 100 mL of water. use the formulas for molality and mole fraction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, what is the Solute and what is the Solvent in this question?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

NaOH is the solute water is the solvent Note: the one that is less is always the solute.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So do I need to change the 19g and 100 mL to moles, then plug it into the equation?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

for mole fraction, yes. for molality, only convert the solute to moles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I tried all that and I still cant get the right answer. Any other hints anyone can give me?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

can you post what you did?
