If it requires 48.3 milliliters of 0.55 molar nitric acid to neutralize 15.0 milliliters of barium hydroxide, solve for the molarity of the barium hydroxide solution. Show all of the work used to solve this problem. Unbalanced equation: Ba(OH)2 + HNO3 Ba(NO3)2 + H2O

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you have to use this formula: \(M_1V_1=M_2V_2\) keep in mind that there are 2 \(OH^-\) in every \(Ba(OH)_2\)

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yes

OpenStudy (sarahc):

What substance is acting as the Brønsted-Lowry base in the forward reaction below? H2O + HCl H3O+ + Cl- H3O+ Cl- H2O HCl

OpenStudy (aaronq):

what do bronsted bases do?

OpenStudy (sarahc):

i got Cl-

OpenStudy (aaronq):

that would be the conjugate acid

OpenStudy (aaronq):

conjugate base i mean

OpenStudy (aaronq):

H2O + HCl it's one of these 2

OpenStudy (sarahc):

H20?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

theres no need to guess if you know the definitions. A bronsted base accepts protons, a bronsted acid donates them. H2O -> H3O+ HCl -> CL-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@aaronq wouldn't it be HCl since its taking from CL?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

taking what?
