Free Fall Question: As you look out of your dorm window, a flower pot suddenly falls past. The window is Lw = 1.19 m tall and the pot is visible for t = 0.244 s. The flower pot was dropped accidentally from a higher floor, a distance h above the bottom of the window. The bottom of the window is a distance hw = 1.70 m above the ground. I solved h to be 1.88m How would I go about finding speed when the pot hit the ground

OpenStudy (john_es):

As you correctly have found, the height from the bottom of the window to the top part is 1.88 m, then, the height from the top to the ground is, \[h=1.88+1.70=3.58\ m\] So now, \[0=3.58-\frac{1}{2}gt^2\Rightarrow t=0.85\ s\Rightarrow v=-gt=-8.38\ m/s\]
