Determine the minimum electric potential difference (in volts) that must be applied to accelerate an α-particle so that on interaction with a hydrogen atom, a ground state electron will be excited to n = 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you should find that how much energy need to absorb a hydrogen atom excited from ground state to n=6. You can use \[En=\frac{ -13.6 }{ n^{2} }\] Then, you should find an alpha particle energy that is accelerated under V potential difference. Note that alpha particle have 2 protons. E=V*(2e) then you should equalize these 2 energies. Then you can find easily V.
