In p-orbital whn we fill 1-1 e- in px, py and pz but when we fill 4th e- ,why its 4the- filled in px why nt py and pz ?

OpenStudy (matt101):

I think this is a convention more than anything. We are the ones that arbitrarily call the orbitals px, py, and pz to make things easy - physics doesn't care. When we're trying to determine how many bonds an atom can make, filling up orbitals from left to right rather than placing electrons randomly just makes it easier to visualize.
