The instruments attached to a weather bal- loon have a mass of 4.6 kg. The balloon is released and exerts an upward force of 107.8 N on the instruments. The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s2 . What is the acceleration of the balloon and the instruments? Answer in units of m/s2
Hi, Let's assume the mass of air balloon is negligible. So there's a force of 45.08 N (weight of the instrument) which acts towards the earth while the air balloon exerts a force 107.8 N in opposite direction. If we consider the air balloon and the instrument as a one system then there's a 46 N od downward force and 107.8 N of upward force. Therefor the resultant force will be a (109.7 - 45.08) N which acts upward With the use of formula F = ma 62.72= 45.08* a a = 1.391 m/s^2 That's it the balloon and the instrument will accelerate by 1.391 m/s^2
why do you use 45.08 for the weight when you already took it out... why don't you just use 4.6 as the mass? @***[ISURU]***
