when the shuttle bus comes to a sudden stop to avoid hitting a dog, it decelerates uniformly at 4.6 m/s2 as it slows from 8.2 m/s to 0 m/s. Find the time interval of acceleration for the bus. Answer in units of s
So we have: \[a=\frac{\Delta v}{\Delta t}=\frac{v_f-v_i}{\Delta t}\] Where \(v_f\) is the final velocity and \(v_i\) is the initial velocity. So we need to isolate for \(\Delta t\) We know that: \[\eqalign{ &a=-4.6m/s^2 \\ &v_i=8.2m/s \\ &v_f=0m/s \\ }\] So therefore: \[-4.6=\frac{0-8.2}{\Delta t}\] Your answer is hidden in there! All I did was plug in some numbers! Isolate for \(\Delta t\) and you'll have your answer :)
*ahem Though I DO suspect that this might have been more in place in the "physics" openstudy section; of course I don't mind either way :D
o my god thank you so much! that helps a lot! you worked it out and everything! :)
Hahaha no prob :)
