A compound only containing carbon and hydrogen was determined to contain 92.257% carbon and 7.743% hydrogen by mass via combustion analysis. what is the empirical formula of the compound?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did 92.257/12.01 for carbon and got 7.6816 and then did 7.743/1.01 and got 7.6663 for hydrogen ... so C7.6816H7.6663 and then divide each by 7.6663

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yep so it's in a 1:1 ratio

OpenStudy (aaronq):

does this general formula \(C_nH_n\) look familiar?
