diethyl ether is produced from ethanol according to the following equation 2CH3CH2OH--->CH3CH2OCH2CH3+H2O What mass of ether will be produced if 217 g of ethanol reacts with a 79.3 percent yield??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perhaps 174.54 grams

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or 276.84 im not confident but thats a hard question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Percentage Yield = mass of Actual Yield/mass of Theoretical Yield x 100% You would first need to calculate moles of ethanol, n=217/MM then use the ratios in the balance equations which means you divide the moles by 2 to get moles produced for the ether. Now you would need to multiply that by the molar mass of the ether inorder ot get the theoretical mass produced. Then use the equation and solve for mass of actual yield
