diethyl ether is produced from ethanol according to the following equation 2CH3CH2OH--->CH3CH2OCH2CH3+H2O What mass of ether will be produced if 217 g of ethanol reacts with a 79.3 percent yield??

OpenStudy (***[isuru]***):

Hi, I think u know abt stoichiometry. Even if u don't know about it from the equation given in the question u must be able to get this data. If there was 2 mole of ethanol ---> there will be 1 mole of ether This piece of data can get by the balance equation here, 2CH3CH2OH--->CH3CH2OCH2CH3+H2O 'cause here 2 of CH3CH2OH has turned in to 1 of CH3CH2OCH2CH3 which means 2 mole of CH3CH2OH will turn in to 1 mole of CH3CH2OCH2CH3 The ratio between these 2 values is known as the stoichiometric ratio.which is represent by \[\frac{ \Delta n _{ethanol} }{\Delta n _{either} } = \frac{ 2 }{ 1 } = 2\] Now before moving to find the value in the given question u must find the theoretical yield using that ratio. Here the no. mole of ethanol is 217/46 = 4.717 if 2 mole of ethanol reacts to produce i mole of either then how many mole of either will formed when 4.717 mole of ethanol reacts ? can u find that bro...?
