Someone who is good with Algebra I Equations and Inequalities?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

The equation below shows the relationship between the temperature in degrees Celsius, C, and degrees Fahrenheit, F. \[c=\frac{ 5 }{ 9 }(f-32)\]Which of the following formulas correctly solves for F?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

what are the formulas

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

\[f=\frac{ 9 }{ 5 }c+32\] \[f=\frac{ 9 }{ 5 }c-32\] \[f=pc+\frac{ 32 }{ 5 }\] \[f=9c-\frac{ 32 }{ 5 }\]

OpenStudy (dobby1):

I think it is a

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Okay. Thanks. Do you think I can call you if I have other questions?

OpenStudy (dobby1):

like on the phone?

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

No. Just tag you like this: @Dobby1

OpenStudy (dobby1):

yes

OpenStudy (dobby1):

could I have a medal

OpenStudy (dobby1):

thx

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

I actually have one right now. Below are the steps to solve an equation: Step 1: |x - 2| + 3 = 7 Step 2: |x - 2| = 7 - 3 Step 3: |x - 2| = 4 Which of the following is a correct next step to solve the equation? x + 2 = -4 -x - 2 = 4 x + 2 = 4 x - 2 = -4

OpenStudy (dobby1):

ok I think the answer is the last one but I am not positive so I am going to mention @zepdrix because he is great at this kind of stuff

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Oh, okay. Thanks.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

@zepdrix when giving me the answer, could you also show the steps - if you want. - you dont have to - i know its too long.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The 4th answer is part of the next step to solve the absolute value equation.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

thanks @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

This is how you'd solve the equation: Step 1: |x - 2| + 3 = 7 Step 2: |x - 2| = 7 - 3 Step 3: |x - 2| = 4 Step 4: x - 2 = 4 or x - 2 = -4 Step 5: x = 6 or x = -2 Notice that Step 4 does include the 4th choice, x - 2 = -4, but to solve the equation correctly, Step 4 needs to also include x - 2 = 4.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

I just want to see if you can check if I got this right - Solve for pi: C = 2pir. Now the way I would solve this I would come up with pi = c / 2 / r, but these are the answer choices: pi equals 2 times C over r pi equals C over quantity 2 times r pi pi equals C over r pi equals r times C over 2 I chose the second one (B).

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Your answer is correct, but a complex fraction is not the simplest form you can have, so it can be simplified.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

\(C = 2 \pi r\) \(C = 2r \pi \) \(C = (2r) \pi \) Since you want \( \pi \) by itself, divide both sides by what is multiplying \( \pi \), 2r: \(\dfrac{C}{2r} = \pi \) \( \pi = \dfrac{C}{2r} \) You are correct.

OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

Thanks.

A company did a quality check on all the packs of nuts it manufactured. Each pack of nuts is targeted to weigh 18.25 oz. A pack must weigh within 0.36 oz of the target weight to be accepted. What is the range of rejected masses, x, for the manufactured nuts? x < 17.89 or x > 18.61 because |x - 18.25| > 0.36 x < 17.89 or x > 18.61 because |x - 0.36| + 18.25 > 0 x < 18.25 or x > 18.61 because |x - 18.25| > 0.36 x < 18.25 or x > 18.61 because |x - 0.36| + 18.25 > 0
