I need help with standard form of linear equations ._.
I know that the standard form is Ax + By = C... but I don't understand how to find A, B, or C...
Like, if I was given the coordinates of a point and the slope of the line, how could I figure it out with that? Or if I was given a pair of coordinates?
Like for example... if I was given the points (2, -3) and (4, 2), how would I find the standard form of the equation?
I already know the point-slope and slope-intercept forms: y - 2 = 5/2(x - 4) or y + 3 = 5/2(x - 2) and y = 5/2x - 8
once you get y = 5/2x - 8, you now want to put it in standard form. Ax + By = C -5/2x + y = -8 (multiply the equation by 2 to get rid of the fraction) -5x + 2y = -16 (multiply by -1 to make x positive) 5x - 2y = 16 <-- standard form for y = 5/2x - 8 Understand ?
once you get it into y = mx + b form, you just have to move things around and get it into Ax + By = C form.
you sometimes have to multiply to get rid of fractions or to make x positive
