i divided 5/9 and i got 0.55 so then i multiplied that by 4

ok, except 5/9 is really 0.5555555....
if you drop those 5's you will get a rough answer, but you can do better

instead, multiply the 5/9 times 4 by multiplying 5*4 to get 20/9
divide 9 into 20
you get 2 with a remainder of 2
so the answer is

or
2.222222...
and the 2's go forever.
