The jogging track is 5/9 of a mile long. If Ashley jogged around it 4 times, how far did she run?

OpenStudy (phi):

5/9 + 5/9 + 5/9 + 5/9 or 4 * 5/9 can you simplify?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i came out with 2.2 is that right

OpenStudy (phi):

how ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i divided 5/9 and i got 0.55 so then i multiplied that by 4

OpenStudy (phi):

ok, except 5/9 is really 0.5555555.... if you drop those 5's you will get a rough answer, but you can do better instead, multiply the 5/9 times 4 by multiplying 5*4 to get 20/9 divide 9 into 20 you get 2 with a remainder of 2 so the answer is \[ 2 \frac{2}{9} \] or 2.222222... and the 2's go forever.

thanks i understand it now
