What gives water its special properties?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Water consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. This composition allows water molecules to have hydrogen bonds between molecules and its polarity. Water is a polar molecule and according to "like dissolve like", it can dissolve other polar molecules. The hydrogen bond between molecules is the strongest type of intermolecular bond and it results in a high boiling point for water. The cohesive properties of water is also brought on by the intermolecular forces of water.
