23. Differentiate between a covalent bond and an ionic bond

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Covalent bonds can be seen has bonds formed when electrons are "shared" between two atoms. These are usually found in molecules consisting of non-metal atoms, like CH4, H2O and CO2. An ionic bond would be giving and receiving electrons and not sharing between them. For example, in the ionic compound of MgO, oxygen, having 6 valence electrons, receive two more electrons from Mg, who originally has 2 valence electrons.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

basically, an ionic bond would be where you have ions, such as Na\(^+\) and Cl\(^-\). also known as Salt or sodium chloride.
