x should be small and y should be big. this makes it easy for us, because the upper bound for y, which we want, is the same for all possible x values. so we pick the minimum possible x-value (0) and the biggest possible y-value (8) and this gives us the minimum value z = 0*x - 1/2*8 = -4.
