19.0 grams of barium hydroxide is dissolved in 184 ml of water (no vol. change). how many ml of .800 M of HCl would be needed to completely neutralize 15.16 ml of the barium solution?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Should be 19.20 grams of barium hydroxide

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Write the balanced equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ba(OH)2 + 2HCl = BaCl2 + 2H2O

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The balanced equation says that 1 mole of barium hydroxide is neutralized by 2 moles of hydrochloric acid. So how many moles of barium hydroxide are you trying to neutralize?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Whatever the 19.20 grams of the solution works out to be which is around 0.112 moles i believe

OpenStudy (mertsj):

So, assuming that is correct, you need .224 moles HCl. The solution you are using has .8 moles per liter. How many liters would you need to give you .224 moles?
