need help to calculate % of free space for simple cubic structure

Not familiar with this subject, but it would appear, you need the radius of one sphere. Multiply that by 8 to get the distance of one side. Cube the distance that would be the volumte of the cube. Then find the volume of one sphere. Multiply that by 64 that would give you the volume of the 64 spheres. Take the difference and that would be the "empty" space. Other than that I can not help you.

@nimamiz Sorry, I was logged off. I would first find the difference between the volume and the total volume of the spheres (64 of them). Then I would divide this difference by the volume of the cube.

After thinking about this, I believe I erred. The length of the cube would be twice the radius, or the diameter times 8. Sorry, but I didn't have my thinking cap on.

Never mind, I re-read it and the diagram shows only 4 spheres per edge or 64 total, I guess I should stay away from chemistry lol
