Find the roots of the polynomial equation. x2 – 14x – 32 = 0 A. 2 and –16 B. –6 and 6 C. –2 and 16 D. –9 and 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Hero isn't A?

hero (hero):

(x + 2)(x - 16) I think you are guessing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes I am because I am NOT good at polynomial stuff.

hero (hero):

You should practice factoring polynomials

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I can factor but not the equation stuff.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So can you help?

hero (hero):

The approach is always the same. You try to get the equation into the form \(a^2 + bx + c = 0\) Then check to see if it is factorable using the discriminant. \(b^2 - 4ac\) If so, factor the left side. Quadratic Polynomials will always factor into some form of \((px + m)(qx + n)\) where: \(p\) and \(q\) are factors of \(a\) \(m\) and \(n\) are factors of \(c\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so c

hero (hero):

c is correct, but you will still need to practice factoring.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you
