In a grocery store you push a 10.2-kg shopping cart with a force of 13.0N . If the cart starts at rest, how far does it move in 2.20s ?

The first part of this problem is to find the acceleration of the cart. Using:\[F=ma\]we can rewrite to find the acceleration.\[a=\frac{ F }{ m }=\frac{ 13.0 }{ 10.2 }=1.27 m/s^2\]Now we use the kinematic equation that relates displacement, initial velocity, acceleration, and time:\[s=ut+\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }at^{2}\]Substituting in the variables we get:\[s=(0)(2.20)+\left( \frac{ 1 }{ 2 } \right)(1.27)(2.20)^2\]Therefore, the displacement is:\[s=3.07m\]
