How do you prove that an improper integral is improper?

It's bounds either go to infinity, go to a value that would cause a discontinuity in the equation, or its bounds include a value that would cause a discontinuity in the equation.

so for example, if the integral is from 2 to infinity, it goes to infinity and -infinity?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just having one infinite bound is enough to make it an improper integral. The integral still only goes from 2 to infinity but what you have to do is replace the infinity with another variable, say a, and then take the limit of the integral as a approaches infinity.
