CH3OH + O2 & WHAT'S THE RESULT?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Take a count of what you have first CH3OH + O2 --> CO2 + H2O H = 4 H = 2 O = 3 O = 3 C = 1 C = 1 Match H first, then O, then N then C. Since there is no N, the order of balancing is H -> O -> C CH3OH + O2 --> CO2 + 2H2O which increases O to 4 on right and 3 O on left 2CH3OH + O2 --> CO2 +2H2O add 1 more CH3OH to try to get the Os to equal; but that increases number of Hs so increase the H2O on the left to 4 so that the Hs match up. It also increases Cs so Os jump again and so do Hs 2CH3OH + 3O2 -> 2CO2 + 2H2O with a need for more Hs you can add more Hs by increasing H2O to 4. O2 on left can now be balanced to make up difference of O 2CH3OH +3O2 --> 2CO2 +4H2O
