what you have is the vertext form though. standard form is \[ax^{2}+bx+c\]

Or does your book or teacher specifically said what you have is the standard form? (different books and different teachers call them differently)

I can convert the form you are showing below into vertex form with no problem. I am just getting lost by the graph and getting the wrong answer in the steps I believe.

No, I just graphed your function, what you had as a function is matching the graph exactly. I do not know why you got it wrong, your teacher may have the key wrong or something. I would recommend you double check it with her.

Well I just tried y= instead of f(x) and got it to work...yeah these online classes have to many picky input rules, with no guidelines told to you.

What if you were just given the vertex though, how would you go about doing that?

Then, you would just have a standard equation. The only difference would be the translation, but the graph will not be stretched or compressed. (In other words, you wouldn't be able to graph the graph you just did without a point, unless you started from the ax^2+bx+c form.)
