multiply both the numerator and denominator by the conjugate of the denominator to get rid of the square root. \[\frac{ 2 + \sqrt3 }{ 5 - \sqrt3 } \times \frac{ 5 + \sqrt3 }{ 5 + \sqrt3 } = \frac{ 10 + 2\sqrt3 +5 \sqrt3 + 3 }{ 25 - 3 } = \frac{ 13 + 7\sqrt3 }{ 22 }\] notice we multiplied by one.
