How many moles are there in 5 grams of NaCl?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you do your basic stoichiometry for this problem. you're trying to convert grams into moles, so you set up your equation \[5gNaCl \times (\frac{ 1mol }{ 58.44g })\] the 1 mole is your standard amount that you use to convert to with. now you have grams on the top and the bottom so basic algebra: the cancel off, and you are left with the unit moles which is what you want it in. now all thats left is multiply everything on the top and divide that total by everything on the bottom. so \[(5\times1)\div (58.44)\] then that gives you your moles
