MEDAL!!!!! How do u round decimals
4 or less give it a rest 5 or more raise the score
So what if it was 12.546
which place are you rounding it to?
it could be 12.55 or 12.5 or 13
100
ok well it goes tenths then hundredths so 12.55
because all youre messing with is the 4 and the 6 and the 6 is more than 5 so you would round the 4 up to 5
does that make sense?
Not really
aha ok so if the number that you are kicking out is more than 5 than you raise the next number up one so because the 6 is more than 5 you will raise the 4 up to 5
So what if it is 34.698
well this one is a bit more tricky are ya ready?
Mhm
the 8 is what youre kicking out so it raises the 9 BUT one more than 9 is 10 sooo we are just going to go up and add 1 to the 6 and make the 9 a 0 like youre adding 10 so it would be 34.70
Wait so yo kick out the ones aftert100
yes
because that is what you are rounding to right?
Oh ok so 48.414873 Is 48.4?
@kaylific
no it would be 48.41 because youre rounding to the hundredths place right?
Oh yup
yeah so you get it?
So 7.8102496 Would be 7.800?
no it would just be 7.81
all youre paying attention to is the hundredths place and what comes after it
Oh so after . Is 10 then 100 then 1000
yes
So 6.4031242 Would be 6.40
29.154759 Would be 29.15
BY GEORGE I THINK YOUVE GOT IT!!
An example: 1.523 5 is the tenths place (0.1) 2 is the hundredths place (0.01) 3 is in the thousandths place (0.001) You round a number if the number on the far right is higher than 4. You leave the number alone if the far right number is 4 and lower. The far right number will only round the number that's right left of it. Example: 1.235 5 (the far right number) is only going to effect 3 (the number right left of 5) Rounding the tenths place: 1.24 You do not round, but you drop the extra number = 1.2 1.25 You round up one whole number = 1.3 Rounding to the hundredths place: 1.233 You do not round, but you drop the extra number = 1.23 1.589 You round up one whole number = 1.59 Rounding to the thousandths place: 1.2354 You do not round, but drop the extra number = 1.235 1.8576 You round up one whole number = 1.858 That's as simple as I could put it. I'm sorry if it's too complicated. :(
76.83749 Would be 77.00?
George?
haha sorry its a saying
no actually it would be 76.84 right?
How come?
because the 7 would make the 3 round up to a 4
I don't get that one
its the same thing youre just taking the 7 in the thousandths place and its greter than 5 so it makes the 3 in the hundredths place round up to a 4
greater*
But we're doing 100. Place remember
@kaylific
right so you look at the hundredths place and the number after it
sorry i took so long i was typing up a paper for lit
