OpenStudy (rane):

are hydrocarbons soluble in H20?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

hydrocarbons are non polar water is polar polar compounds dissolve polar medai non polar compounds dissolve in nonpolar media and nonpolar and polar compounds are nonmiscible

OpenStudy (rane):

so the answer is no

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

yup

OpenStudy (rane):

are there any explanations to it, besides the polar & non polar part

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

hydrophilic ( polar) and hydrophobic(nonpolar)

OpenStudy (rane):

umm... i did this lab, and that q' came up in the report but i cant write about non polar and polar becoz that will be out of topic so any simpler answer ?

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

i don't think soo;) dipole moment may work but not straight forward

OpenStudy (rane):

o.O

OpenStudy (rane):

OpenStudy (chmvijay):
