A light spring of constant k = 159 N/m rests vertically on the bottom of a large beaker of water (as seen in the picture below). An m = 4.54 kg block of wood (density = 657 kg/m3) is connected to the spring and the mass-spring system is allowed to come to static equilibrium (b). What is the elongation, DeltaL, of the spring? So I tried to find the buoyant force with this equation: Fbuoyant = density of water * volume of block *g And then I divided by the given value of k. I ended up with .426 m but that was not correct.
