find the critical points if any of the following function on the given interval/ Determine the absolute values of f on the given interval. f(x)= sin x on [ -5pi/3 , -pi/2]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I started solving the problem and i got the derivative which is cos x and then i set it equal to 0. which gave me - 3pi/2 for the critical point and i don't know where to go from there.

OpenStudy (phi):

your interval is "closed" meaning it includes the limits. In other words, -pi/2 is also a critical point because cos (-pi/2)= 0 I am not sure what they mean by Determine the absolute values of f on the given interval. that seems to be asking for a graph of the absolute value of sin(x) over the interval, which is not related to the critical values.

i can attach the picture from the homework assignment directly..
