Does anyone know how to balance this chemical equation? B2Br5 + HNO3 -> B(NO3)3 + HBr. (The 2, 5, and 3's are all subscripts.) Please explain this to me!!! :(

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

First you balance the B, then the Br then you should get the rest.

Sorry I wrote the product side wrong, it's B(NO3)3 + HBr

I'm confused about the the subscript inside the parenthesis and the one on the outside of the parenthesis. Do I just multiply 3 and 3 together?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

For the O, yes

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

The paranthesis is because NO3 exist together as an anion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the Nitrogen would equal 3 and the oxygen would equal 9?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Yes
