A rectangular swimming pool is 40ft long and 20ft wide. The shallow end is 6ft deep and extends for 8ft. Then for 16ft (horizontally) there is a constant slope downwards to the 20 ft deep end. How many 4-inch square tiles are needed to tile the top 16 inches of the inside faces of the pool?

All you need to do is find the area of the four rectangles that make up the sides of the pool. I'll convert to inches for this one. Length = 480in Width = 240in Height = 16in Total area = 2[480 x 16] + 2[240 x 16] = 23040in^2 Tile area = 4in^2 Number of tiles = 23040/4 = 5760 tiles

Thank you!

That's how the pool is shaped, so it's not 4 rectangles. Sorry, I should have drawn that before.

For this problem, you only have to factor in the rectangles that make up the top 16inches of the pool. The other measurements don't matter in this one like they do in the other problem that i worked for you. Does that make sense? |dw:1385404684309:dw|
