How would you solve arccos

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@jennisicle do you understand the concept of inverse trigonometric ratios?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really, it's kind of confusing to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I somewhat understand it

Solving this problem requires understanding inverse functions. If you need background info on inverse functions, please ask. Now, if arccos(2x-1) = Pi/3, we can solve for (2x-1) by taking the cosine of both sides of this equation. We get 2x-1 = cos(Pi/3), and cos(Pi/3)=cos(60 degrees) = 1/2. So this problem boils down to 2x-1=1/2. Solve that for x and you'll be done.

Alright, I wasn't sure if cos cancelled out arccos but that makes sense. Thanks!
