Hi, I'm doing a chemistry lab for determine the empirical formula of MgO, but I don't know how to answer this question. Why was the crucible heated strongly after the reaction had apparently been completed?

OpenStudy (kainui):

Since I haven't read the manual myself, I can't be entirely certain. However, it seems like you would want to heat it strongly after the reaction had apparently been completed just in case there was some leftover that didn't react, and by heating it further you increase the likelihood of eliminating all that was left unreacted, thereby getting a more accurate weight of your yield.

Thank you :) That's what I was thinking, but I doubt myself a lot.
