do electrons occupy a single energy level?

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

I don't think so.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ur sure

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

They can go to different energy levels

OpenStudy (kirbykirby):

Just think of the Lyman series for example

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Yes I am sure, in fact the energy of an electron depends on the energy of a photon its interacting with. When an electron absorbs a photon, the electron gains energy and momentum, when emitting a photon, the electron loses energy thus going down to a lower energy level.
