A train travels between two stations 1/2 mile apart in a minimum time of 41 sec. If the train accelerates and decelerates at 8 ft/sec^2, starting from the first station and coming to a stop at the second station, what is its maximum speed in mph? How long does it travel at this top speed?

help pls

Parth (parthkohli):

Let's say that the train takes \(t_0\) time to reach the max. speed \(v_o\). Use the equation \(v_f = v_i + at\). Then you have,\[v_0 = 8t_0\]\[0 = v_0 - 8(41 - t_0)\]

Parth (parthkohli):

Two equations... two variables. Solve.

Parth (parthkohli):

That is, if I understood your question correctly. The train starts, accelerates at 8 ft/sec^2, reaches the top speed, and decelerates at 8 ft/sec^2?

Parth (parthkohli):

If that is so, then the other info is useless.

the final answer should be 60mph. but i did't get the same answer ung your two equations
