Explain energy changes in the formation of NaCl Crystal Lattice?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In Formation of Nacl Crystal Lattice, the enrgy changes is explained by Born-Haber Cycle. First, sublimation of Na requires energy, then energy is required for breaking the Chlorine molecule into chlorine atoms....Now, more energy is required to ionize the Na atoms. This energy is called Ionization energy. Now, when these electrons get added to chlorine, energy is released because they attain noble gas configuration. This energy is called Electron Gain enthalpy. Now, both Na and Cl ions are present. They come toghether and and release huge amounts of energy forming NaCl crystal lattice...

OpenStudy (usman1995):

but why is the sublimaton fo Na takes place we are talking about lattice which is solid so when sublimation occurs the Na will be converted to gas.......isn't it? @tusharlovesphysics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, chlorine molecule exists in gaseous state, so we first sublime Na to form a gas, then after ions get attracted to each other and so much of energy is released that a solid crystal lattice is formed...
