Find the missing lengths in the triangle. Round to the nearest tenth if necessary. http://media.education2020.com/evresources/645-12-06-00-00_files/i0130000.jpg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a. x = 22 in., y = 7.8 in. c. x = 19.1 in., y = 22 in. b. x = 22 in., y = 19.1 in. d. x = 33 in., y = 19.1 in.

OpenStudy (shamil98):

Use the cosine/sine functions.

OpenStudy (shamil98):

Actually, you don't need those, you can just use the 30-60-90 special triangle theorem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do that? lol i forgot how to do it

OpenStudy (shamil98):

The leg across the 60 degrees angle is the long leg. and the leg across the 30 degrees angle is the short leg.

OpenStudy (shamil98):

LL = Long leg SL = short leg LL = (1/2)H √3 LL = SL √3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay. well idk how to use the 30-60-90 thing but ik the cosine/sine functions how they work..

OpenStudy (shamil98):

y = LL 11 = SL y = 11√3

OpenStudy (shamil98):

LL = 1/2 H √3 11√3 = (1/2)H √3 11 = H/2 22 = H

OpenStudy (shamil98):

Oh, since you're not familiar with the theorem, I suggest you take a look at this for further explanation. http://www.regentsprep.org/regents/math/algtrig/ATT2/Ltri30.htm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for all the information

OpenStudy (shamil98):

You could also solve for y like this: tan 30 = 11/y and for x sin 30 = 11/x but this method is much easier.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So theres two ways.. hrmm the other way looks harder to me lol. I think its cus idk how that formula works. but i will try to study that

OpenStudy (shamil98):

Alright.
