Looking for some insight onto a problem that I cant seem to get, involving molecular orbital theory. The question states "An isolated nickel atom in its zero oxidation state has the electronic configuration d8s2. Which of the following configurations represents the orbital hybridization of nickel in the paramagnetic square planar complex ion [Ni(Cl)4]2-? I know that the answer is dsp2, but I dont see how! any help?
