What is the limiting reactant when 8.4 moles of lithium react with 4.6 moles of oxygen gas? Unbalanced equation: Li + O2 → Li2O Show, or explain, all of your work along with the final answer.
@sarah786 do you think you could help me out?
I try .. Can u show me ur work??
umm its simple . :) Ok first step balance the equation .
it would be Li2O, right?
Actually I've to go in few minutes So I solved it for you .But please try to understand it ,Not just Copy ok :)
Yeah of course! Thanks, you're a life saver. This lesson is really stressing me out, i just need someone to help me really grasp it. I appreciate everything. (:
First balance 4Li + O2 ---> 2Li2O So it show 4 moles of Li form = 2 moles of LiO2 so 1 -------------= 2/4 moles of LiO2 8.4 -----------= 2/4 x 8.4 moles of LiO2
So for 8.4 moles of Li = 4.2 moles of LiO2
Now same for O2 1 mole of O2 formed = 2 moles of Li2O So 4.6 mole of O2 formed = 2 x 4.6 = 9.2 mole of Li2O
Because less Li2O is produced from 8.4 mol Li, Li is know as the Limiting reactant. In this situation O2 is in excess. I hope u got it :)
@official_snowflake
I think i do, i'm going to have to read it a few times though. (: thank you
Yw :)
