OpenStudy (abmon98):

Draw sketches to show orbitals overlap that produces the sigma bonding in the H2 and HCL molecules. Sources November 2007 IGCSE Chemistry AS Paper 2

OpenStudy (abb0t):

H\(_2\) is just two spheres, since they are simply s-orbitals. The HCl is a a bit different since now you're introducing p-orbitals. Remember also that sigma bonds are overlapping between two adjacent atoms and their outermost orbitals

OpenStudy (abmon98):

chlorine has 17 electrons so how should the shape of p be like?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

p-orbitals look like this: |dw:1387920722580:dw|

OpenStudy (abmon98):

could you please show that p on a graph so i could figure out on which axis is the p on x or y or z

OpenStudy (abmon98):

Could your draw the full shape of HCL
