what is the percentage of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen in ethanol?

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Ethane: \(C_2H_6\) Ethanol: \(C_2H_6O\) |dw:1387968408363:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C:H:O=2:6:1 m(C):m(H):m(O)=52.2%:34.8%:13%

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

Formula for alkane: \(\large C_nH_{2n+2}\) Formula for alkane: \(\large C_nH_{2n}\) Formula for alkane: \(\large C_nH_{2n-2}\) For example: methane is CH4, ethane is C2H6, propane is C3H8 ethene is C2H4, propene is C3H6, butene is C4H8 propyne is C3H4, butyne is C4H6, pentyne is C5H8 Alkane can be used to form alcohol by substituting an OH in the place of an H. Methane is CH4, methanol is CH3OH. Ethane is C2H6, ethanol is C2H5OH. Wish you all the best :D

OpenStudy (abmon98):

Ethanol has a molecular mass of 46 so divide each atomic mass with 46 so 6/46*100 for H, 24/46*100 for C and 16/46*100 for O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Welcome to Open Study! Ethanol is written as C2H50H. So now you have to find the total mass of the C, H and OH atoms. And than divide all of those values separately from the total mass of ethanol, then *100 to find the percentage. Do you get it now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, got it rlly. thnx for d help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all of u, im obliged. thnx once again

OpenStudy (kc_kennylau):

absolutely no problem of any kind at all :D
