A string with frequency 420Hz is plucked along with a string of unknown frequency. There are 12 beats heard every 4 seconds. The tightening of the string causes more beats to be heard. What was the frequency of the unknown string? I would use the formula for frequency which is 12/4 =3Hz and then it would be 420Hz - 3Hz =417. So is the frequency of the second string 417Hz??? Please help

Using the formula: \[f _{beat}=f _{1}-f _{2}\] You can calculate the beat frequency which you have done (3Hz). I would've gone with 417Hz. But I'm learning this stuff myself so am no expert

Okay. :) Thanks. It's hard stuff to learn, confusing, but I love it.
