"Is eating" involves "is," a conjugated form of the verb to be, and the present participle. Together we call it the Present Progressive tense or the Present Continuous tense.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
You can see a past participle in verbs such as "have eaten" (Present Perfect tense) and "is eaten" (Passive voice of the Simple Present eat/eats).
