Break down the denominator: (x-2)/(x+6)(x-2) Now the x-2 cancels leaving 1/x+6, where x - -6 and 2. You can't forget the qualifier for the piece that you cancelled

\[8.x-\frac{ 2 }{ x ^{2} }+4x-12 =12x-\frac{ 2 }{ x ^{2} }-12 =\frac{ (12x+12(-1))x ^{2} }{ x ^{2} }-2=\frac{ 12x ^{2} }{ x ^{2} }\]
